Challenge
- Corroded pipeline requiring matchboring before replacement
Benefits
- Permanent cold-work replacement with no hot work or welding
Scope
A Tier 1 operator requested ICR’s support aboard a deepwater FPSO offshore Angola, where a corroded 10” hydrocarbon line required immediate replacement using a cold-work solution.
The carbon steel pipeline featured a Class 300 rating, straight/bend geometry, and an operating temperature of 71°C. Due to the process conditions and the need to eliminate hot work, Quickflange™ was selected as the safest and most efficient solution. ICR provided the engineering support, materials, and experienced personnel to replace the damaged pipe section.
Solution
Following the cold cut of the line, the scope required match boring which was carried out by the ICR Technician to suit the tolerance of the Sch40 Quickflange™ connector requested.
Once matchboring was complete, the Quickflange™ connectors were installed and successfully pressure tested, confirming a permanent, gas-tight seal and restoring the integrity of the pipeline.
Results
- Damaged pipeline section safely replaced using a 100% cold-work solution.
- Matchboring enabled installation without compromising repair integrity.
- No hot work or welding required, reducing safety risks and minimising downtime.
- Cost-effective, permanent repair completed quickly by experienced ICR technicians.
