ICR Strengthens Americas Division with Appointment of Senior Mechanical Engineer, Prashant Patel

Since its establishment in 2017, ICR’s Americas division has gone from strength to strength, supporting customers across the region with technologies including Technowrap™ composite repairs, Quickflange™ weldless connectors and INSONO™ composite inspection.

We have expanded our Americas division to maintain this positive trajectory, which includes the appointment of Prashant Patel as Senior Mechanical Engineer.

We’re delighted to welcome Prashant into the team, and to have bolstered our division with his impressive knowledge and experience – get to know Prashant in this Q&A.

1.) Could you tell us a little about your background and your experience as a mechanical engineer?

“I’m a Mechanical Engineer with over 23 years of experience, primarily in the Oil & Gas industry, specialising in product design, engineering calculations, testing, qualification and root-cause analysis. Much of my recent work has focused on wellhead and pressure-control equipment and sealing technologies.

“I’ve also led qualification programmes, supported manufacturing and testing, and mentored engineers and technicians. I enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and developing practical, reliable solutions. I’m looking forward to bringing this experience to ICR while continuing to develop my technical and leadership skills.”

2.) You’ve joined ICR as Senior Mechanical Engineer supporting our Americas operations. What attracted you to ICR and the technologies we deliver?

“What really caught my attention was that ICR offers alternatives to conventional repair methods. Technologies like Technowrap™ composite repair and Quickflange™ weldless connections help customers extend asset life, reduce downtime and avoid hot work or major steel replacement. I find that kind of engineering interesting because it combines sound mechanical engineering with innovation and practical customer benefits.

“My background in mechanical design, product development, qualification and testing, along with my experience in pressure-control equipment and sealing technologies, gives me a strong foundation to contribute. I’m looking forward to learning more about ICR’s technologies, using my experience to help solve customer problems and supporting the growth of the Americas business.”

3.) You’ll be supporting projects involving both Technowrap™ and Quickflange™. What interests you most about these technologies from an engineering perspective?

“What interests me most is the engineering behind both technologies and how they offer alternatives to more invasive repair methods.

“With Technowrap™, I’m particularly interested in how the repair is designed around the existing asset, considering defect assessment, load transfer, composite behaviour and long-term integrity. The ability to repair everything from corroded pipework to structural components, in some cases without shutting down the asset, is a real benefit.

“With Quickflange™, it’s the mechanical design behind creating a permanent flange-to-pipe connection without welding. I’m also interested in how engineering analysis, including axisymmetric FEA, can be used for applications outside the standard qualified range.

“Given my background, I’m naturally interested in understanding how these technologies work, how they’re qualified and how we ensure they remain reliable in service.”

4.) With your engineering experience, how do you see your role strengthening the technical support ICR can provide to customers across the Americas?

“I see my role as being a strong technical link between ICR’s technologies, the customer and the field. My background in mechanical design, testing, qualification and root-cause analysis helps me understand customer problems and work towards practical engineering solutions.

“I’d start by understanding the operating conditions, materials, defect and installation requirements, then work with the wider ICR engineering team to identify the right solution and explain the technical reasoning to the customer.

“My experience working with customers, suppliers, manufacturing and testing teams will also be valuable. Ultimately, I want to build customer confidence in the solution and ensure the engineering intent carries through to successful field execution.”

5.) Looking ahead, what are you hoping to bring to ICR’s Americas operations, and what opportunities do you see for developing the use of Technowrap™ and Quickflange™ with customers?

“I’d like to bring my technical experience, Oil & Gas background and practical, customer-focused approach to help operators understand where ICR’s technologies fit within their asset-integrity and maintenance strategies, beyond emergency repairs.

“With Technowrap™, I see opportunities in corrosion management, aging pipework, difficult-to-access assets and situations where shutdowns or steel replacement have a significant operational impact.

“For Quickflange™, I see potential in pipe modifications, tie-ins, repairs and decommissioning, particularly where hot work is difficult or undesirable.

“I’d like to help identify these opportunities, develop technically sound solutions and work with customers to build on successful applications across the Americas.”

6.) Finally, what are you hoping to achieve in your first year with ICR, and what are you most excited about for the future?

“In my first year, I’d focus on building a strong technical understanding of ICR’s technologies, engineering processes and standards, while developing relationships with the Americas team, customers and field personnel.

“I’d want to get involved in projects as quickly as possible, supporting engineering assessments, customer discussions and field execution, while using my experience in mechanical design, qualification and troubleshooting to add value. I’d also look to develop repeatable engineering approaches and share lessons learned across the team.

“What excites me most is the opportunity to work with proven technologies that still have room for broader application. Success would mean becoming a trusted technical resource, contributing to successful projects and helping identify new opportunities for ICR’s technologies across the Americas.”
